Shyok River Lodge is set amidst mountains that beckon to be explored. There is a sheer endless number of ancient mountain trails that can be walked, either on day trips or on longer treks. Actually, we encourage you to walk to Shyok River Lodge, all the way from Ladakh’s capital, Leh.
Being situated in a wide open valley and very close to the high plateaus of Rupshu and Changtang, especially Shyok River Lodge East is the ideal starting point for long rides and multi-day treks on horse-back. Mid-summer 2105, we hope to start horse trekking.
And then there’s the river. Also mid-summer 2015, we hope to start canoe trips that will take you from Shyok to Deskit or Hundar in western Nubra. Those who don’t want to spend a rupee on vehicle fuel - or maybe charmed by the idea of a zero-emission trip - can walk to the lodge, canoe or ride (on horseback) down to Deskit or Hundar, and trek out again to Leh.
